Matthew Sorrell glass can be separated into two distinct categories-table ware ranging from coasters to 20 inch platters to wall art; framed ‘paintings’ made of glass.
All Matthew Sorrell glass is unique and handmade using the highest quality glass imported from America, and the more simple, accessible float glass. Each piece possesses natural bubbles and flaws only found in handmade pieces, and each piece is individually signed.
Creating art glass is a very long and slow process – each piece is created from carefully cutting and placing shapes of glass onto a flat glass surface, along with ‘frit’, ‘confetti’ and coloured powders for texture and depth of colour. The piece is then fired at temperatures of 840 Celsius until the desired effect is achieved. The finished painting is then mounted on board and framed to hang in any room.
